Description

The Wadsworth International Fellowships are intended to provide support for students undertaking study leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at universities where they can receive international-level training in anthropology.

These fellowships are available only to students from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources to send students overseas for training [click here for details]. The Wadsworth program’s main goal is to expand and strengthen international ties and enhance anthropological infrastructure in these countries.

Because of this, priority is given to applicants who have not already begun graduate training abroad, and who are likely to return to an academic position in their home country upon completion of their degree. The purpose of the Wadsworth International Fellowship is to offer support for students who are in the early stages of their doctoral programs. See the links to ‘Eligibility’ and ‘General Criteria for Evaluation’ below.

The annual fellowship is $17,500 and can be used towards travel, living expenses, tuition, income taxes, student fees, insurance, books, research expenses and any other relevant categories of expenditure while studying at the Host Institution. The fellowship is renewable for up to two additional years upon successful completion of each preceding year’s study/training. A separate application can be made for an additional year of funding to support dissertation write-up.
