Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) is home to over 5,000 international students from more than 120 different countries, which makes Manchester Met a hub of diversity, culture and opportunity. The University is an internationally recognised institution that dates back to 1824 and is known for its teaching excellence and world leading research. The University is ranked as one of the top 60 universities in the UK (Complete University Guide 2024).

Manchester is a popular student city with 100,000 students, making it one of Europe's largest student populations (Complete University Guide, 2024).  Manchester is also one of UK’s best cities to live in (Global Liveability Survey 2023), whilst also being ranked as the third best student city in the UK (QS Best Student Cities 2024)  Manchester Met’s city-centre location means that students can easily access the city and immerse themselves in the history, sport and entertainment that Manchester has to offer.

Research

Manchester Met prides itself on conducting research that is impactful in the way it shapes the world both now and in future years. 90% of the University’s research impact is ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (REF2021), which highlights the quality of research being conducted at the University. The University is ranked in the top 10 for its research power in four subjects: Art & Design (2nd), Sport and Exercise Science (6th), English Language and Literature (8th), and Education (9th).

Facilities

The University is undergoing a £400m investment into its learning spaces, teaching facilities and public spaces. This includes the opening of the School of Digital Arts (SODA), Institute of Sport and most recently the Dalton building, which is the new home of the Faculty of  Science and Engineering. This investment aims to enhance the learning experience of all students at Manchester Met.

The Business School has been triple-accredited since 2019 which places it amongst the top 1% of Business Schools worldwide, this recognition is testament to the high standards of teaching and research within the Faculty of Business and Law.

Student Support

International students are supported on their student journey to Manchester Met and throughout their time at the University by our International Office. The team are able to help with any queries students may have about the University and can guide students through the process.

The University provides support to students once they are here, with extra help available with careers, finances, wellbeing and learning, such as English language classes and help from the Academic and Study Skills team.

Students can also access a range of support through Student Services and the Student Hub, who cover a range of issues including disability, mental health and wellbeing, student finance and more. a

Affordability and Accommodation

Manchester is one of the cheapest cities in the UK for students (NatWest Student Living Index 2023) with plenty of low-cost activities available such as museums and parks as well as lots of student discounts on offer. Accommodation at the University varies in price depending on your budget. As well as university owned accommodation, there are other options, such as Manchester Student Homes or other popular UK housing websites such as Rightmove, Zoopla and On the Market.

The University can also provide financial support to international students through scholarships.
