Inflation level increases for research stipends

UK Research and Innovation, the government body responsible for supporting research and knowledge exchange at higher education institutions, recently shared some welcome news.

There will be an increase in the minimum student stipend of 10% from the previous levels for 2022-2023.

This will mean a real terms increase of more than £2,000, increasing the minimum level to £17,668. The increase will only apply to UKRI Doctoral students continuing or due to start their studentship from 1^st October.

Availability of UKRI Funding has widened in recent times due to the relaxation in eligibility rules.

Overseas students are eligible to apply for this support which was previously available only to UK researchers.

UKRI is undertaking a review as to how to set the stipend in the future.

Any assistance on offer to research students during the current cost of living is to be welcomed.
