LJMU’s Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering can trace its roots back to the foundation of the Liverpool Mechanics’ Institute in 1825, and the first Nautical College for the merchant marine in England in 1892. Today, the Department is one of the UK’s leading centres for maritime and engineering education.
All of our postgraduate courses are taught by academics active in industry-oriented research and scholarship. The city of Liverpool has one of the largest clusters of maritime businesses outside of London and a thriving engineering and advanced manufacturing base. Our teaching and research is supported by long-term partnerships with employers in the city plus with universities and companies around the world.
These links help ensure that our courses are kept up-to-date and that you have opportunities to develop skills and experience in solving realistic problems during your studies. And that is why we attract so many applicants from around the world and why our graduates are highly sought after by employers.
